Fun Monday

Our host this week is Aoj & The Lurchers.

The topic:

Continuing in the spirit of "being interested in people", I would like to know, or see, what's on, in or under your bedside table! So open those draws and bare your soul to us! Is there anything special there that has a story or a memory that you can tell us about? Books that you keep there to delve into from time to time? Trinkets that you don't know where else to put? Let's see!

Okay, so this is my bedside table. I usually keep my mug on here. Because I am lazy. I get thirsty in the night. I must have water. So I just refill this mug every night before I go to bed. I like my mug a lot. My no talent self painted this mug on a date with Super Z. It gives me nice memories along with my H2O.

The clock is set an hour and 15 minutes fast and takes a beating every single morning.

The pictures are of Super Z when he was three weeks old and my Daddy. Two of my favorite guys. I used to have a picture of Randy here too, but Princess H stole it. I guess she likes her Daddy as much as I like mine.

That is a ponytail holder hanging on the picture of Z. I get hot at night as well as thirsty. You never know when I will have to get the hair off of my neck.

The wooden watermelon slice isn't usually there. Princess H came in while I was taking the picture and sat it there. I guess she thought it added a little something to the shot.

The magazines change by the week, but they are always there. Entertainment Weekly, Parents, and Newsweek are my favorites. Today it is Entertainment Weekly, featuring Heath Ledger (who was one of my favorite actors. I am very sad about his death. His daughter is exactly one week younger than Princess H. My heart is just broken at her loss.) and the LL Bean Spring catalogue.

The bottom of the stack of books is my journal, which I try to write in every night. It was a Christmas gift from one of my very good friends. The current books are the second book in the Outlander series and Dreamsongs, a collection of short stories by Gorge RR Martin. I am not sure if two books could be more different, but that is my style. I like to be reading at least two books at all times. I can pick up whichever one matches the mood that I am in.

And that, give or take a little clutter and a few pieces of wooden fruit, is my night table.

I used to have one of those tables - I wonder where it went?

I've always liked that style of table with the longer section coming out... Ledger's death was a trajedy for sure...

Alarm clock? What's that?
For the last 20 years, I've been awake by not later than 6:00 a.m. Oh, those days of being able to sleep in.

If that is the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon, enjoy, enjoy, enjoy! It is my very favorite!
I also love that style of table. Too bad that they went out of fashion...oh, wait, they didn't. They just migrated into bedrooms.

Dragonfly in Amber is going to get you rather upset if it hasn't already. Be prepared. It was the last one in the series that I would say was AMAZING, but the other four are certainly great.

Your mug is beautiful!! I love the photo frame of your baby also.

A good description of your table.

I think I have that exact clock....

I took the big center-front button out (the snooze, if it is indeed the same clock), so I would have no way to snooze the thing.

That worked for 3 days.

On the 4th day, I had an idea: just slide the time setter slider thing and set a new wake up time!

Now, I can slide to alarm display, set the new wake up time, and re-slide to time display, all without actually waking up. Granted, my Add-9 While Half-Asleep skill is degrading fast, but them the breaks I guess.

I'm thinking about getting a 2nd clock. This one would be set ahead to when I would be arriving at work. That might work until, half-asleep, I forget to not think about a way around it....

I'm so with you on the Heath tragedy. What a tragic loss. And I love your Super Z shots, perfect.

I think the watermelon slice was just what it needed too. A nice splash of color. :-)

Love the mug! Yours is the only other Fun Monday I have noticed to have something to drink out of on your side table. I get thirsty in the middle of the night and yep too lazy to get out of bed too. Like your side table with the shelves. Cute.

I am lovin' your mug.

And I'm also VERY broken up about Heath, and not sure why.

That is a cute table and I love your mug.
I was reading your post before this one and I do hope you get your money back. That is an awful thing to happen and must have been such a shock for you.

I am really sad about Heath, too. The clock is set an hour and 15 minutes fast ~ I could not handle that type of trickery.

Your clock is set an hour and a half ahead?! That's crazy! The only time our clock is set ahead that much is when my hubby starts punching buttons in the dark. Then he wakes up, gets ready for work, notices the real time and comes back to bed. It's quite funny actually.

An hour and fifteen minutes ahead? Good Lord, woman! ;)

I almost bought that magazine today, but it was just too sad and I couldn't do it!

Ha, I mentioned in my post that my bedside table was one of my grandma's end tables. As far back as I can remember she had two end tables the one by my beside and another one that looked JUST like yours!

I thought it was funny.

Love your mug. And Heath Ledger was one of my faves, too. :( Handsome pic of him there.

I like your table. My husband always has a bottle of water on his nightstand. Bottles instead of a glass or a mug, because he's not so graceful, and the alarm clock is on his table . . .

Linda said...

omigosh, I was just talking about the kind of night table you have... wishing I could find one for our living room which needs an elevated part for a lamp, but also needs to be long... I wonder if they still make those? I like your collection of stuff - it tells us so much about you.

Molly said...

I like your mug too. My husband's grandfather made a table much like your nightstand. At one time, we used ours for a nightstand too.

Serina, my eyes were drawn to the magazine cover right away. As with others, I'm very affected by the untimely death of Heath Ledger--so young, so talented. By all accounts he just wanted to live and work under the radar and be a father to his young daughter. Later this week I'm going to write a post about the Brokeback Mountain Forum that sprang up after the movie was released. Heath did good in his short year.

Sorry, didn't mean to monopolize your blog with this. I too love the jammie photo and your artful mug.

I enjoyed visiting you and reading about you and your bedside table. Thank you for visiting me today and leaving a comment.

Yes, those are tapes in the drawer. Tapes from the church where I used to attend. I need to do something else with those.

I hope you will visit often.

I always set my clock fast too. In fact all the clocks in my house are set fast but in different amounts of time. Anything to confuse me out of the house on time!

It really stinks about those creeps snagging your money. Hopefully all the got was your account numbers and not your whole identity...

laurie said...

your clock is set an hour and 15 minutes fast?

you must panic every single time you wake up.

Sauntering Soul said...

An hour and 15 minutes fast? Oh my word. I used to try to trick myself doing stuff like that but I would just wake up and think "oh, it's not really that late. I can sleep longer because my clock is set ahead." I can't do math very well later in the day....it's too much to try and do math first thing in the morning!

I just love that type of nightstand!!
I enjoy "window shopping" through the LL Bean catalog.

I was very sad to hear of Heath's death, it is just so tragic and sad. I really feel for his daughter, family, and close friends.
