I have a body part theme going on, first ears, now noses and lips. It isn't intentional. It just happened.
I need help. Does anybody out there have experience with extremely chapped lips?
Super Z has had a runny nose for three months or forever, I am not sure. He also LOVES to play outside and unfortunately he has the very bad habit of wiping his nose on his sleeve. As a result of all of this loveliness, he has developed the worst chapped upper lip in the history of the world.
His lip has been red and ugly looking for over a month. On particularly cold days it has even turned purple. It is awful.
We have been putting Neosporin on it everyday, multiple times a day. If we put any kind of bees wax or chapped lip ointment on it he screams in agony.
So I need fresh ideas. How do I get rid of this and prevent it from happening again? Give me all your good ideas. I know that you have them...

Serina,
Having lived in the cold dry air of northern Iowa, the best thing that we found is a product called Aquaphillic. If your local Walgreens or Wal-mart doesn't carry it, they can order it. It will cost about 10-12 dollars and will that amount will last you a good long time. Eucerine cream will work well in the meantime.
Eucerin Cream might help, or Aquaphor.
You might tie his hands behind his back (:
Yikes! That sounds really painful. Hopefully somebody gives you a remedy that will help Super Z.
I can't help you out here though because we're lucky in this part of the world....no chapped lips.
I get terrible chapped lips every winter. Best thing I've found is Blistex Medicated Lip Ointment. Good luck...I know how painful this can be!
I would put a humidifier in his room at night in addition to all of the other suggestions.
Poor guy! Goofy Boy has this problem as well. The only thing we can use that doesn't make him cry in pain is Vaseline . . . it seems to clear it up after a couple of days. However as soon as we stop using it it comes back.
Vaseline seems to solve most problems.
I use Aquaphor on my daughter.
Chicken poop is awesome. I read about it on FM a while back & had to try it. I hope you find relief for Z.
Serina, we do Vaseline. Big Sis has a bad habit of licking her bottom lip and about a half inch of skin under it. It gets horribly chapped and Vaseline is the only thing that doesn't send her screaming from the room.
Boudreaux's has a new lip & cheek ointment that is doing wonders for us... have you though about liquid bandage? Paint that thing up so that it's impermeable?
A prescription steroid cream may be in order, though. Sounds pretty severe, poor guy!!
Good luck!
